What a way to close out the month. Hotel Cafe was packed like luggage and the band brought the party. Pretty Girl was extra fun (TI and Lonely Island?) and Yesterday Shutting Down made it feel like a Saturday night. Today Was Just A Dream and Still Be Loving You are both new tunes, both beautiful. Can't wait to hear more.

MY BUILDING MAKES A FIRE SOUND LIKE A MID-90S DANCE PARTY

It almost makes me think that, should there ever be a fire, it'd be like Tag Team playing a rave in the parking deck.

"What's that smell? Is that smoke? Boom-shaka-laka-shaka-laka..."

Another question - why must we evacuate at 90-degree angles? The second I hear the "whoop", I guarantee you I'm taking the hypotenuse straight outta here.

Very different show than last week in many respects. The crowd was so keyed in that David played "For You" from the front of the stage, sans amplification. I haven't heard "Do What You Want" or "Sign O' The Times" in a while. And of course, the presence of JJ Johnson on stage, off stage, in the room, in the building, in the city ensures a wonderful evening.

Tonight was the first night of David Ryan Harris on Wednesday Nights in July at Hotel Cafe. The setlist:

The MJ cover was an incredible way to start off the night. David also played an inspired "SHA" as a similar tribute. I haven't heard "Be Beautiful" in forever ever... "Pretty Girl" had a break in the middle of the bridge - explaining it to those who weren't there would only be more confusing. Loved the solo in "Sweetest Berry". Also found out that "If I Had A Dime" is also titled "Bitch I Want Breakfast".

But the best line of the night was before "Pretty Girl" - to the fine, curvy girls: "...don't lose anything...but articles of clothing..."

See you next Wednesday...maybe we'll get PYT?
