JJ, Hurley, and Chaves killed it as usual. John sat in on Sweetest Berry (the stage was hot - just before David's set, John did a stand up set and hosted a sort of open mic for anyone in the room. great stuff...).

Gonna go get some sun...more soon from the last day at sea.

Spectacular show at Spectacular Spectacular (the "Spec Spec" to those in the know). John was in a talking mood - every break between the songs had a little something special. Mr. Bob Reynolds did his thing in Vultures and Wheel - all the guys really did their thing tonight though. The songs all seemed to have a new edge to them. Heartbreak Warfare made its second appearance and was followed by the first Burning Down the House I've ever seen. John took a request and closed the set with 3x5 that included an apropos Lyle Lovett reference. He closed the night with a 12-minute Gravity.

I just realized I didn't give you details on the DRH show last night. It killed in El Moroccan...a slew of classics and a phenomenal performance. JM sat in for a tune or two. Great show. So much that I think multiple people walked out pregnant. And I say "people" because I saw 2 dudes after that looked like they might have a bun in the oven. The show was that powerful.

And...I also will say that the one thing I am incredibly impressed with is the variety of old tour merch I've seen on the ship. I'm talking like more than 100 different shirts from tours from the last 8 years. It's pretty amazing to see the spectrum of styles, shirts, and hoodies...some of you guys don't realize you're wearing one of like 75 shirts that exist. Special shoutouts go to the dude with the "Home Life" tee and the guy with the Brett Dennen 2007 Tour shirt with the tourdates in my handwriting. STUDS!

We hit Cabo in the morning...more soon. Must eat my 3rd pastrami sandwich in the last 24 hours. What?

AND - it's WORKING!! Joy (Union) has moved on again in the NIKEiD iD Royale tourney. She's now in the Elite Eight - vote for her as many times as you can...this round's design slate was the Air Stab:

Most of the contestants played it safe or played it unwearable this time around...help make some magic and vote for Union like it's your job!

Getting online is pricey out here, but I wanted to keep y'alls updated...John debuted Half of My Heart last night at the One Splendid Evening gala. He, Robbie, and DRH played four (as I can recall) songs (the other three being Belief, Free Fallin', and Waiting On The World To Change). Then he and Jordin Sparks closed the night duet-style (he playing guitar, she singing)...One Step At A Time, Tattoo, and Find Another You.

The we set sail yesterday...John and DRH kicked it off outside. They delighted us with another new one: Heartbreak Warfare. Dudes was goin' crazy when Sucker came out.

Okay - gotta head to dinner. More from the boat soon.

"I'M IN A RACE" TEASER

Andy Grush and I have been working on this track for a minute...after listening to "I'm On A Boat" hundreds of times and running hundreds of miles this year, I found myself inspired.

I re-wrote the lyrics, jumped into Andy's studio, and laid down the rap. Then Andy turned on the Autotune and Scot-T-Pain did his thing.

My favorite verse from the track:
"I'm in a race and
I'm runnin' fast and
I got a 13-year-old I'm runnin' past and
I'm at the front of the pack, runnin' fast like a Kenyan
If you see my back, then you sho' ain't winnin'"

Been shooting video clips along the way - hopefully I can throw them all into the full-length version of the video in the next week or so.

In the meantime, I leave you with this:

PASADENA MARATHON PLAYLIST

Last Sunday morning was Me vs. Pasadena. Pasadena brought out some dirty tricks - rain, wind, and a eff-ton of hills. But I wasn't scurred...final time was something around 3:25 (waiting for the official to be sorted). Pasadena got WORKED.

And here's what I had to help ME...made a playlist of 507 songs and hit shuffle. What you see below is what cycled through. I hit "Repeat" a few times when I felt like I needed another immediate dose ("Tipdrill," "Paper Planes," and "The Bucket", and "Can't Tell Me Nothin' (remix)").

The Nike+ results - I forgot to "End Workout" immediately after, hence the dropoff...

AND - speaking of Nike, Joy (Union) advanced to the second round in the NIKEiD iD Royale tourney. We have today to ensure she makes it another week - go and vote for her fire as many times as you can...here's the Air Max 90 she designed:

MARCH MADNESS AND NIKEID BADNESS

It's time to make a Bracket! Even though my boys couldn't pull off the Cinderella run in the ACC Tourney, I still love this time of year...I gotta work on my picks but like Memphis, Pitt, and UNC out the gate...

In a similar tournament, NIKEiD is sponsoring a contest: iD Royale. 32 designers (some representing brands, some representing themselves) face off - there are 16 from both LA and NY. The "matches" give each designer three minutes to design a shoe at the NIKEiD Studio at the Montalban or 21 Mercer. The results are then posted here and we get to vote to see who advances. (it's worth logging in, you'll need it down the line. promise.)

Joy from Union is a contender and came out hot in Round 1. You gotta go vote for her (as many times as you like) - she's got the black, blue, and yellow dunks in the top left. Classic with some pop. Inspired by the Nawlins Hernets? Or maybe a blackened burger with bleu cheese on a golden bun? Who knows... Let's just make sure she gets to the next round...

Glad I put $20 on the Jackets to win the Tourney (turns out that the 100:1 odds were extremely generous) last time I was in Vegas. That "Most Intellectual" senior class superlative comes in handy all the time.

HELP THE YOUNG STORYTELLERS FOUNDATION.

YSF_banner.jpeg

(Skip the rundown and just go here. If you'd like.)

I know we all need a little bit of help these days, but I wanted to raise my hand for a program I really care about. I've mentioned Young Storytellers before - a team of ten mentors leads an 8-week session in which ten 4th- and 5th-graders complete a 5-7 page completely original screenplay. At the end of the 8 weeks, the mentors bring in actors who act out each little writer's story in front of an assembly ("The Big Show") of students, friends, and family. The writers see the stories they created come to life. It's a pretty incredible journey to watch (and I think sometimes that the mentors get as much, if not more, out of it as the ten and eleven year-olds.

YSF needs support in order to keep the program flourishing in 35 Los Angeles-area schools. All of the mentors are volunteers, but we need supplies for the sessions and have traditionally rewarded the writers with a pizza party before their Big Show. Some of these things are in jeopardy of being lost without a little bit of help.

I'm the head mentor for this semester's group at View Park Prep Elementary. We have a sponsorship page set up here. Any funds we raise help all the YSF programs. Any amount ($1, $5, $10, $13.78, etc) will go a long way to helping keep this vital program alive in area elementary schools.

Thank you. Happy Daylight Savings Time Day (aka Bummed Because It's Later Than I Thought Day).

Scotty

LIL WAYNE, BEST ORTHODONTIST EVER?

I caught our man Wayne on Jimmy Kimmel talking about his teeth (link to interview)...$150,000 for the permanent diamond veneers. Strong choice.

Lil-Wayne-diamonds-teeth-grill.png

And while I love this like you know I would, it raises more questions than it answers:

1. I can see 16 teeth "diamondeered" - are all 32 done?

2. Did Weezy pay a price-per-tooth or a flat fee for the entire mouth?

3. If he did pay price-per-tooth, were incisors the same cost as molars? What about bicuspids? Did each tooth have an estimated cost calculated by some sort of surface-area-to-visibility formula?

4. If I got my molars done and then started having pain from my impacted wisdom teeth, would the better choice to be to remove $18,750 worth of teeth and diamonds or live through the discomfort?

5. Can the Tooth Fairy really afford to leave a payment under the pillow that is actually an incentive for kids to remove their teeth? Last time I checked, I got a quarter. Not exactly the scratch I'd expect if I lost a lateral incisor that I could use as a downpayment on a house.

6. If Wayne tore his ACL, do you think he'd have the replacement tendon blinged out before it was reattached? What do you think his hearing aids will look like? How many carats would a stone need to be in order to be hollowed out and converted into a pacemaker? Can you insert a diamond into the center of the pupil during Lasik surgery? I need to know so I can plan!!

These are the tough questions we're forced to face. Mr. Carter, you are a delight.
