9-3. GREATEST DAY EVER.

Georgia Tech goes into Athens and beats Georgia (college football's preseason #1 team), 45-42.

YES SIR.

What a tremendous game. Tech's running game killed it in the 2nd half...the option dominated. It's the beginning of a new era with our boys. I haven't been so pumped watching a sports event in...7 years. Call it stupid, but I was fighting back tears as time expired. I was the only Tech guy watching the game with a gang of Georgia fans, so I had to remain stoic and walk briskly back to my car to avoid being lynched.

UVA couldn't hold on against Virginia Tech, so no ACC Championship for us...but everyone knows this game means the most. What a way to end a regular season that exceeded all expectations.

DAVID RYAN HARRIS AT PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY.

My mom was visiting last weekend and I had the pleasure of taking her out to Malibu to see David play a private show at Pepperdine (by the way, how ridiculous is it to go to school in MALIBU? Their campus is on the Pacific Coast Highway!). Good, clean fun:

If I Had A Dime
For You
Used To This
Don't Look Down
King For A Day
Que Sera Que Sera
Subterranean Homesick Alien
Pretty Girl 101
Pretty Girl (You Send Me, Shining Star, The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, Your Body Is A Wonderland, Let's Get It On, With Or Without You)
All I Need
Good Thing
E: Turn Around

Some details: DRH added "That's why I travel down the PCH...for you" to the itinerary in For You. King For A Day had the most ridiculous guitar work I think I've ever seen at a solo acoustic performance. I haven't heard Que Sera and Subterranean Homesick Alien in years. Before Pretty Girl, David decided he'd use the setting to give a short lecture on the importance and meaning of the song. There will be a test next week that will account for 30% of your final grade. Good Thing had a great singalong...including a solo by some of the audience members.

Great night and so worth the trek. Some photos...

8-3. OR "WHITEOUT > BLACKOUT." OR "FEED ME."

STRONG.

The I 41, The U 23. Somebody came to play on a Thursday night. 472 yards on the ground. FOUR-HUNDRED-SEVENTY-TWO for all you check-writers. And that includes mailing-it-in in the 4th quarter with backups.

SO pumped about next Saturday morning.

Also pumped about rooting for Duke for the first time ever (and only for the next 2 weeks). While we're at it, go Wolfpack (over UNC), get 'em Dabo (over UVA), and Wahoowa (over VaTech). Little help and the Coastal's clear...

YOU NEED SOME ZAC BROWN.

sc_08-11-15.png

I don't know if I've ever gotten so hot on a band so quickly like I did after I saw Zac Brown on last year's Rock Boat. Those dudes make me miss Georgia in the best of ways. A little bit of country, a little bit of rock, and a good good time.

Zac Brown Band's record, "The Foundation" drops today. Pick it up, freals...and if you can, check these guys out at a show.

The Foundation:
On iTunes.
Via the ZBB Webstore.
From Amazon.
Find a Best Buy (or Californians can hit Amoeba).
Or, treat yourself and go to a real record store.

INTRODUCING "SIX DEGREES OF UNIFICATION" OR A BONUS FEATURE FROM THE SOON-TO-BE-AWARD-WINNING SHORT "FRIENDLY PERSUASIONS".

I can't get this jam out of my head! - Varsity Fanclub ain't got nothin' on these guys!

Ok, so here's the deal: 7 of us were a team in the Cannonball Run Film Festival, a festival in which you're given a title, a mandatory line of dialogue, and 48 hours to write, shoot, edit, and then show a 10-minute short film at a screening. Not much sleep, lots of stress, but tons of fun.

We received the title "Friendly Persuasions" and decided to follow the (obviously) very sexy R&B/Pop Group "Six Degrees of Unification". While compiling other footage, we managed to shoot this video with the group for their breakout single "In The Mood". The film itself came out nice as well, but I'll let you get acclimated with Tyler, Micky, Dwayne, Ricardo, Ivan, and Skyler before I drop the True Hollywood Story on you.

HANGIN' WITH MR. IVERSON.

Well, almost. I was lucky enough to go to the Pistons-Lakers game last Friday night to see my man in action with his new team (HUGE shoutout to K-Jeezy for making it happen).

A.I. didn't disappoint, and there were actually two other noteworthy Pistons: Will Bynum played for Tech (on that exciting 2004 NCAA Finals team...I believe he actually made the layup to defeat Oklahoma State in the semis) and Kwame Brown is from Da Wick. An honorary beau, if you will.

These pictures leave much to be desired, but there's not much like going to an NBA game. Everything is so close, you feel like you're in the movie Space Jam! Anyway, great time and hopefully this is a preview for the 08-09 NBA Finals...

GREAT MINDS...?

Check out Billionaire Boys Club/Ice Cream Store's 3rd Anniversary commemorative t-shirt.

Then be reminded of one of our Summer 2008 tour shirts.

YSF: WEEK 2.

Last week with YSF, we got into the beginnings of storytelling - outlining a few basic elements and constructing some stories.

We did an exercise that showed how easy it is to create a story. In the exercise, the writers split their page into quadrants and listed three Loves, Hates, Wants, and Fears in each respective corner. They then could combine those characteristics and have the start of a pretty sweet little story.

I decided to dig out the Flux Capacitor and do the exercise as my 5th grade self. Shoutout to Mrs. Zell and Goodyear Elementary.

Looks like it's time to write a screenplay about a math-loving kid who wants to break the rules but has to play catch with mean girls at day camp otherwise he won't be able to decipher the subliminal directions in Huey Lewis' "Hip To Be Square" that will lead him to the Honus Wagner baseball card.

Can't wait to see what goes down tomorrow!

7-3.

Ouuuuuuch. Tech falls to UNC, 28-7. Looks like having a number in front of our name hurts on Saturdays.

This one knocks the wind out...

EDIT: Monday Night Football commentary crew, PLEASE stop telling me what the teams on the field or their personnel are "saying" or "thinking". The competition to deliver the biggest "zinger" every 45 seconds could use a break as well. You guys make watching football feel like sitting in traffic. I'd really love to enjoy this game without muting my TV.

THE DAY AFTER...

Two great videos from yesterday, one of which you have no doubt seen many times. While the two clips may differ in significance, they are similar in their ability to delight every non-robot in this world (no matter how you vote or what you buy at Foot Locker).

Video 1: Barack Obama's speech in Chicago on Election Night

I thought he might start out by just shouting "WHO'S HOUSE?" but then again I'm also the guy using 3rd grade rhyming schemes to gain the respect of my peers.

(Sidenote: 'Bama and 'Bama both sit atop their respective polls...)

Video 2: Allen Iverson's first press conference as a Detroit Piston

The last 25 seconds are priceless. Here's this if you need it.

DO IT.

PS: Who loves Detroit? We talkin' 'bout the Pistons, man! What are we talkin' about? The Pistons??

SURRRRRIOUSLY.

sc_08-11-03.png

Back in the day, I loved me some extracurricular activities (likely to help distract from my lack of ability to play team sports) and loved to run for all kinds of "offices"...some Student Council (shoutout to Brunswick High), some Dorm Council (shoutout to Grace Hall), a lot of Student Government Association (shoutout to Middle Georgia College and Tech), some Greek life (shoutout to LCA beaus), and more Clubs With Forty-Five-Minute Afternoon Meetings Where Pizza Will Be Served than I can remember (shoutout to mandatory retreats) .

I won some and lost some, but the most awesome part of the process was trying to get students to roll up to the table in the cafeteria or the booths outside the Student Union and VOTE. I made buttons out of foam core board in 8th grade and passed them out at Jane Macon (I lost that one). I made t-shirts using Avery Iron-On labels at Tech (got that one - turns out they were the first t-shirts I ever designed). I spraypainted bedsheets and hung them in trees around the campus of Middle Georgia College (got that one because I was the only one who ran). For some reason, it seemed so difficult to get people to remember to vote. Or to convince them that their vote would make a difference.

Seems like that'd be a silly concern now, with us all being grows up now.

PLEASE GO VOTE. That "I Voted" sticker is the coolest thing you can wear tomorrow. It goes with everything. Don't be the kid on the block who isn't rocking the fresh sticker.

Remind everyone. Punch a chad. Hug The Chad.

-Scotty

PS. The slogan I stuck with from 8th grade through college was:
"While you're on the potty, think about voting for Scotty"
I'd hang signs on restroom doors (oddly enough, a very campaign-free area on campus). Not sure if it hurt me or helped me, but I figured I owed you the truth.

7-2, #20.

Georgia Tech holds on to upset #15 Florida State, 31-28.

I think I almost had a seizure on that last FSU drive.

With the win, Tech gets back into the Top 25 (#20 BCS, #22 AP, #20 USA Today) and sits back on top of the Coastal Division of the ACC. We beat Bowden for the first time ever and Florida State for the first time in like 40 years.

Equally as satisfying:

Florida destroys Georgia, 49-10. Maybe Richt should have sent the team to celebrate in the end zone after that first missed field goal by Blair Waldorff? Or changed into black jerseys (or maybe space suits?) at halftime? Or tried more on-side kicks? (My bad, I guess they only had 3 kickoffs in the game so 33% is pretty good). Sorry to be a hater, but that's the way it goes...

Great article here (especially if you didn't see the end of the game).

BEING A GEORGIA FAN IS DETRIMENTAL TO THE EDUCATION OF OUR CHILDREN AND THEREFORE HURTFUL TO THE FUTURE OF AMERICA.

Clarke County School District Closes on Friday before Florida-Georgia game.

Borderline ridiculous. And by "borderline" I mean "completely".
