zombie tuesday instore at amoeba music02/05 by SC

Went and posted it up in the "Ca-Ci" section of the Used CDs last night to watch Frankenstein Friday's instore performance. The set:

Mansard Roof
Campus
Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa
M79
Bryn->
Ladies of Cambridge
A-Punk
The Kids Don't Stand A Chance
Oxford Comma

The Good:
1) The drummer was light-rocking it so hard that the "Amoeba Music" sign fell on him during the second song.
2) Two-and-a-half-minute songs! It's impossible to lose interest.
3) Regardless of the hype-debate that's going on with these guys ("They're the most exciting thing of 2008!" "They're the most overhyped thing since Andrew WK!" "I love them!" "I hate people who don't hate them!" "I hate myself!"), the show was fun and the room was full.

The Not-As-Good:
1) Jeans? JEANS!? I thought I was promised pleated khakis and Sperry Top-Siders (or Sebagos, even!)? This will not be forgotten.
2) Two-and-a-half-minute songs! I mean, I had another 4 minutes in my day, just play the whole record. No one's asking for a Phish show, but don't deprive me of "Walcott".
3) People don't like me, so I had to roll solo. I tried to act (ha) like I had some very serious action going on with the Blackberry, but deep inside I was crying, waiting all by myself like some creepy guy in the shadows for the band to begin. Like Mummy Leapday on Warewolf Bank Holiday.

what a super sunday...02/04 by SC

1. Midway through the First Quarter, you may have seen that Kina WON the Doritos "Crash The Superbowl" contest - a tremendous, TREMENDOUS thing. Thanks so much to everyone who took the time to listen and vote. Keep an eye on her. The song "Message from Your Heart" is now available for purchase at the iTunes Store. Don't even try to resist singing along with the "bom bom bom boms" at the end, you will fail. Anyway, drop the 99 Lincolns on the single instead of that burger from Wendy's.

2. I think this was the best football game* I've ever seen (those of you who know anything about me are probably aware that any team I like will likely lose any game in any sport at any time) - it definitely was the biggest. In addition to that ridiculous catch, the entire game just seemed to have some sort of insane significance. And let's not forget the quote from earlier this week:

"Hahah - we're only gonnna score 17 points?! Hahahaha, what - is Plax playing defense??"
-Tom Brady, on Plaxico Burress' prediction of a 23-17 Giants victory

3. TV's coming back?

4. Text reports seem to indicate that the Mayercraft Carrier is indeed rockin' on the high seas. I'm working on getting some more info for all of us who decided to remain terrestrial this weekend.

All in all, a fantastic little Sunday fun day.

*I would have said "best sporting event", but that's reserved for this right here.

finally able to walk again (with a slight limp) at 3:30pm today.02/02 by SC

I'm not sure who talked me into training for a marathon, but I'mna punch them in the face as soon as I find a mirror. Anyway, was due for a long run last night and turned in this baby (note the intense struggle at the end, where I thought my small toe was dislocated and all my extremities were numb, that was my favorite part!):

That's from my house in Silverlake down Sunset to Whitter Ave, past the Beverly Hills Hotel...and back:

The BEST part is: that's still 8 miles SHORT of what has to go down in 4 weeks. These marathon folk are no joke. Friday nights were way funner waiting in line for 45 minutes to buy $9 Coronas...
