'Banding' Together
Over the last few years, I've noticed fans taking initiative to band together and do something to raise money for causes that John supports. It always turns out that not only are they raising money, but they are truly building a community of friendship over music. (A few tours ago it was creating and selling wristbands in Atlanta for The Back to You fund.)Back in November at the Battle Studies release show, I got the pleasure to work with a few of these special fans who brought a charitable (and community) element to the night.
We set up a table in the lobby of the Beacon Theatre, where everyone at the show could show support to John, and something he believes in by purchasing charity wristbands again. Proceeds from the wristband sales went to the Military Outreach Ministry (M.O.M.), an organization that supports young military families.
These pink bracelets could be spotted throughout the venue (and on stage) all night. Everyone in our office wore them too. (See our Captain Planet like pose below.)
This summer, at most John Mayer shows, you'll find a new table in the Eco-Concourse. Fan volunteers will be selling glow in the dark wristbands for the entire tour, with the inscription "A Simple Little Kind of Free! John Mayer 2010" to benefit M.O.M, once more.
It's truly incredible to see such passion from fans. The fact that music can move you to give back, says enough in itself.
If you'd like to pre-order a wristband, and show your love on the upcoming U.S. Summer Tour, please visit jmwristbands.com by June 6th. There is a list of venues where you'll be able to pick up your bracelet on this tour, or you can have yours shipped to you.
Now, just make sure you put those arms in the air when the sun goes down and the lights come on.
