What a way to see these songs for the first time live - in a packed room in
Williamsburg, safe from the cold with a few hundred friends. After
insisting that I should get out at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, my cab
driver was finally convinced that the venue DID in fact exist after I looked
the location up on my phone's GPS. Estimated time of arrival: 7:45PM.
Actual time of arrival: 9:05PM (or during the second verse of Heartbreak
Warfare).
The band has a new look and the new songs have a lot of little surprises you
might not expect. I can't wait to see them at the Beacon in the bigger
room. We got some Police in Why Georgia and Steve Jordan had a ridiculous
drum solo before Waiting On The World To Change. John called a setlist
audible with Comfortable solo acoustic before segueing into Free Fallin' and
Edge of Desire.
The crowd sang along to Half of My Heart like it was an old
favorite...similar to the room when the band closed with Friends, Lovers or
Nothing (for reals, who gives a f*** about an oxford comma?), which started
with a gospel-themed intro and a Rolling Stones reference.
Great to be back in the same room with these dudes. Great to be in New York
City. Not great to be on Pacific Time with a big day tomorrow... see you at
the Beacon. I'll be Road Journaling all week long...
